The Primitive Way (18 days)
The “Primitive Way”, or in Spanish “Camino de Santiago Primitivo”, leads Saint James pilgrims from Oviedo (Asturias) to Santiago de Compostela. The first recorded pilgrimage was undertaken by the Asturian King Alfonso II, called Alfonso the Chaste, as early as in the 9th century, shortly after the apostle’s remains had been discovered in Iria Flavia, Galicia. Thus, the city of Oviedo became the starting point of the Way of Saint James and the king’s pilgrimage marked the beginning of a movement that would attract pilgrims from all over Europe and become one of the most important religious and cultural phenomena in the History of Mankind.
