Possibly the most popular beach in eastern Asturias, Playa de La Franca has it all. It’s a large golden sandy beach with a small river running along the left of the strand.
Playa de La Franca is dotted with lovely rock formations and at low tide you can access the neighboring beaches of Regolgueru to the left and Del Oso to the right but do keep a watchful eye on the tide or you find you have a bit of a trek to get back to your car.
Playa de La Franca is a wonderfully well serviced beach and is highly accessible to all. It is especially great for kids when the tide is in as it is well protected from the elements. It’s well signposted and is in close proximity to the motorway and is also at the foot of the Picos de Europa which opens up countless options for planning activities in the area. In this beach there are also plenty of coastal walks to avail of.
The amenities on offer are: Generous parking, Hotel and restaurant on the beach front, Shower and toilet facilities and Picnic area Camping.
It is easy to access, which means it is much frequented, though not usually overcrowded. It has a long-standing tourist tradition going back to the 19th century, when it boasted a seaside spa.
El Castrón Islet, a safe haven frequented by seagulls, is located off the centre of the beach.
Playa de La Franca is located in the town of La Franca in the District of Ribadedeva.
